WAN routers are used to transmit packets over long distances or even across dimensions. The packet pathfinding algorithm will only use WAN routers as a last resort option and attempt to route primarily through regular Network Routers, regardless of distances. As the normal WAN router is relatively expensive, there is an inexpensive version called 'Cheap WAN router' which only allows connecting to Network Cables on one face. Currently there is no other functional difference between them, but this might change in the future.

Conceptionally, all WAN routers are connected, this means, to allow two networks to talk to each other, simply place down a WAN router in each of them and thats it.

WAN routers are also required for the Internet component to work, in the sense that a Computer attempting to use any functions within the internet component must be able to reach a WAN router through the network.

For more information regarding packet transmission, such as the incurred transmision delay, see Network.Navbox content
